Public and product liability insurance go hand in hand. Public liability insurance covers you for single incidents where a customer or member of the public is accidentally injured in your restaurant for example, by consuming a product with mislabelled allergy advice. Or, if someone’s property is damaged due to your business’ activities or products. We’ll cover you for up to £5 million as standard under our policy. Product liability insurance protects you in if a product you sell has accidentally caused harm or injury to several people. For example, if several people were to eat a meal you’ve prepared that caused them to fall ill.

Contents insurance is vital to any restaurant. Our contents cover can help replace the contents of your restaurant. This cover is wide ranging, covering everything from the furniture in your actual restaurant – your booths, tables, chairs etc. To your kitchen equipment – cookers, kettles, pots and pans etc and even your ingredients.

Employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement for all businesses with employees, as it’s there to protect your employees in case they get injured and fall ill as a result of working for you. We know that employees are the backbone of your business and that’s why we’ll pay up to £10m for compensation and legal costs to defend a claim made against the insured.

What type of restaurants do AXA cover?

We cover a variety of different types of restaurant, subject to a few conditions. Your restaurant must have fewer than 40 seats and if you use frying in your cooking methods, we will be unable to insure you if you use flash or wok frying.

Do AXA cover restaurant with fryers?

Yes, we do insure restaurants with fryers, provided certain conditions are met. These include but are not limited to:

  • Deep fat fryers must be fitted with a thermostat calibrated at 205°C
  • Flash or wok frying is not permitted
  • Cooking equipment must never be left unattended when in use.
  • Equipment must be cleaned every 7 days
