What is personal injury car insurance cover?
Accidents are an unavoidable part of life. We always hope to avoid them, but these things happen, and we can get hurt. But at AXA, we’ve got you covered.
With our improved personal injury and rehabilitation cover add on, you can receive up to £100,000 if you’re injured in your car in an accident. Our cover applies even if the accident wasn’t your fault, so you can rest assured even if you’re hurt because of someone else.
We can also provide expert medical care and rehabilitation to help you get back to health after an accident. However safe a driver you are, having a little extra peace of mind is a good thing.
Exclusions to personal injury car insurance cover
There are several specific exclusions to the cover shown below, including:
- Any deliberate attempt to put lives in danger (unless to save a human life).
- Injury resulting from you driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs to a level which would be an offence in the country where the accident occurs.
- Any injury caused by failure to wear a seatbelt unless exempt on medical grounds.
- Any injury that happens while you are not travelling in or getting into or out of your car or driving any other car.
Taking part in rallies and driving without a valid licence are exclusions under the whole motor policy.
If any of the factors above played a part in your accident, your claim won’t be payable.
What rehabilitation cover is offered?
AXA provide specialist medical care and rehabilitation to help you get back on your feet after an injury. Physiotherapy, MRI scans and chiropractic treatments are just a few of the services that we can offer to help you recover.
With our cover, there is a limit of £5000 and we also cover cosmetic and reconstructive dental treatment up to £500.
Even the safest drivers don’t know what’s around the corner, so it’s reassuring to know you’re taking extra care, just in case.
Is personal injury cover the same as car insurance?
Personal injury cover is not the same as regular car insurance. With a standard car insurance policy, you’re covered in the event of an accident for repairs to your vehicle. Every policy comes with the opportunity to add optional extras to enhance your cover for further protection. Our personal injury cover is one of these extras.
The main difference between personal injury cover and car insurance is what it covers. Car insurance compensates you for damage to your car, but personal injury cover provides fixed sum benefits for the injuries described in the policy if they’ve been sustained during an accident. It also offers specialised medical care and rehabilitation to get you back on your feet after the accident.
Is personal injury cover included in my car insurance?
With AXA, limited cover is provided under your standard car insurance policy. However, you can also purchase personal injury cover as an optional extra for increased benefits.
When can I make a personal accident cover claim?
You can make a claim after getting injured in an accident as long as you have personal injury cover. This cover only applies to the policyholder, and to be eligible you need to have been driving or getting in/out of your car when you were injured, and it must have happened in the UK.
There are a lot of different injuries you can claim for, so make sure you check your policy details to see exactly what is and isn’t covered. Also, don’t wait to get the payout you’re entitled to – make sure your claim is made within three months of the injury. If your claim is approved and, depending on the type of injury, you could receive up to £100,000 in a fixed benefit payout.
