The report is launched today at a roundtable co-hosted by the Rt. Hon Jack Straw, MP for Blackburn and Chris Voller, AXA Claims Director and author of the Report. In comparing whiplash claims across several countries, it analyses the factors behind the markedly 2 different claims volumes and insurance costs - notably differences within the respective legal and medical systems.

UK SMEs suggest the future’s looking brighter

AXA Business Insurance’s annual “Optimism Index” shows that 37 per cent of UK SMEs are more optimistic about their business than a year ago. Eight out of ten (81 per cent) are currently upbeat about the general state of their business and the majority are expecting growth over the coming year.
Launch of the AXA – Imperial College London Chair in Biosphere and Climate impacts

The AXA Research Fund, a world-wide initiative of scientific philanthropy supported by the global insurance group AXA, has awarded €1 Million to Imperial College London (UK) to create a Chair in Biosphere and Climate impacts, held by Professor Colin Prentice. He will build comprehensive climate change scenarios including robust, observationally based modelling of biological processes and will thus be able to forecast worldwide consequences, notably for primary production in agriculture, bio-energy and natural ecosystems.
AXA further strengthens its support to international science through an additional contribution of €100 million to the AXA Research Fund

AXA pursues its commitment towards independent academic research by adding €100 million to the AXA Research Fund budget for the period 2013 to 2018. This amount tops the initial €100 million granted to the AXA Research Fund at its inception in 2007, which have since then benefited 367 projects led by researchers from 49 nationalities working in more than 150 universities in 27 countries throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas.

In the last few years the number of deafness claims made on commercial insurance policies has been rocketing. AXA Business Insurance reports a rise of 162% from 2009-2012 with British businesses ultimately having to foot the bill.
